Qi Gong & Ceramics Workshop

Awakening the Qi of Spring & the Creative Process

2–3 May 2026 | Zurich

A unique weekend to reactivate creative energy, restore vitality, and deepen your relationship with clay.

In Daoist tradition, spring corresponds to the Wood phase — a time of renewal, movement, and new beginnings. After the inward energy of winter, this season supports growth, clarity, and creative unfolding.

Through the combination of Daoist Qi Gong and ceramics, this workshop offers a rare opportunity to work simultaneously with body, energy, and material, allowing creativity to move from inside to form.

This workshop is especially for you if you:

  • feel creatively blocked or low in energy

  • long for fresh inspiration and renewed momentum

  • want to deepen your sensitivity to surfaces and material

  • wish to reconnect body, intuition, and artistic process

  • are curious about Daoist approaches to creativity

No previous experience in Qi Gong or ceramics is required.
All levels are welcome.

Saturday — Revitalising Qi Gong

Guided by Birgit Buschmann, this Daoist Qi Gong practice works with the energy of the Wood phase, helping to release stagnation, restore vitality, and cultivate grounded presence.

Through flowing sequences from Yangsheng, Tai Ji principles, and the Daoist Eight Brocades (Ba Duan Jin), we regulate the meridian system, particularly the Liver and Gallbladder functional systems associated with spring.

The practice includes:

  • movement principles from Daoist health cultivation

  • alignment of the three levels: Heaven – Earth – Human

  • seasonal self-massage practice (“Return of Spring”)

  • breath and awareness training

This system derives from the Eight Treasures of the Eight Immortals (Xian Jia Ba Duan Jin), a corpus of 64 movement sequences related to the 64 hexagrams of the Yi Jing, expressing continuous transformation in nature and human life.

This day prepares the internal ground for the creative work of Sunday, cultivating calm attentiveness and embodied clarity.

Sunday — Ceramics & the Creative Process of the Seven Stars

In Daoist cosmology, the Big Dipper (Bei Dou) represents the stages of the creative process — from the emergence of an idea to its manifestation.

Through a tactile dialogue with clay, participants explore this process while discovering their personal birth star, offering insight into their natural creative rhythm.

We will work with:

  • Japanese kurinuki (carving bowls from a solid block)

  • pinch and slab techniques

  • exploration of textures, impressions, and structural surfaces

  • use of ochres and engobes

Special emphasis is placed on surface development — a dimension often difficult to explore in regular classes.

This focused approach supports:

  • renewed creative momentum

  • deeper material sensitivity

  • development of personal visual language

  • confidence in intuitive making

The presence cultivated during Qi Gong flows directly into the work with clay, supporting an attentive, vibrant, and embodied creative process.
