Spring Qi Gong & Ceramics Workshop in Zurich

Creative renewal through movement and clay

2–3 May 2026 | Clay & Tao Ceramic Studio

This spring ceramics workshop in Zurich offers a unique opportunity to reconnect creative energy through the combined practices of Daoist Qi Gong and ceramic making.

In Daoist philosophy, spring corresponds to the Wood phase — a season associated with renewal, movement and the emergence of new creative impulses. This weekend workshop supports both physical vitality and artistic sensitivity through an embodied approach to creativity.

By working with movement, breath and clay, participants explore how creative processes unfold from internal awareness into material form.

No previous experience in Qi Gong or ceramics is required.

Saturday — Qi Gong for creative vitality

The workshop begins with a day of Daoist Qi Gong guided by Birgit Buschmann.
This practice focuses on releasing tension, restoring energetic flow and cultivating grounded presence.

Through flowing movement sequences and breath awareness, participants prepare the internal conditions necessary for attentive creative work.

The session includes:

– seasonal Qi Gong practices related to spring
– breath and awareness training
– movement principles from Daoist health cultivation
– exercises supporting physical alignment and energetic balance

This preparatory day supports clarity, focus and embodied attention before engaging with clay.

Sunday — Ceramics and creative process

The second day is dedicated to ceramic practice, focusing on surface exploration and intuitive form-making.

Participants work with techniques such as:

– kurinuki (carving from solid clay)
– pinch and slab construction
– surface textures and impressions
– engobes and natural surface treatments

Special emphasis is placed on surface development — an aspect often difficult to explore within regular pottery classes.

This approach supports:

– renewed creative momentum
– deeper sensitivity to material
– development of personal visual language
– confidence in intuitive making

The presence cultivated through Qi Gong informs the work with clay, creating a more attentive and embodied creative process.
